I remember odd things.
I remember girls who worked in the munitions factory - they all had yellow faces, from the sulphur, I suppose.
I remember the stupid Home Guard running round; they were as daft as on Dad's Army, and none of their uniforms fitted.
I remember Italian POWs - they did manual work and work on the farm. Some of them were very clever craftsmen. We had one here in the club until last year, but he's left now.
I don't remember my dad during the war. I didn't see much of him - he was in the army, sent all over the place. He was just a stranger when he came back home. All I remember is that I was called out of class to meet him, and it was really embarrassing.
