One night during the war when I was about three the constant roar of aircraft going over awoke both my mum and me.
I remember my mum taking me to her bedroom window where we pulled the curtains open,no lights on of course. For what seemed like hours we saw the dark shadows of planes going over from left to right.( I subsequently realised our house and my mums window faced west and that therefore the aircraft were heading north.
After a long time aircraft started coming from right to left.
I can vaugely remember people talking about it the next day and when I was older my mum explained it was the night Coventry was so badly bombed.
