As I was born in the second year of the war my memories are that of a small child, my parents worked on the land, we lived in a converted pub half way through our village (where I still live), about the only real thing that has stuck in my mind after all these long years is the wonderful finds of rolls of silver paper that were the centers from the bullet magazines, with these we were taught by my mother to manufacture christmas decorations, I doubt if even now I could carry out this task as it has been so long, but the memories of those decorations hanging from the ceiling and glittering in the coal fire light live with me to this day,I am told the silver was thrown out of the returning Wellingtons as they prepared to land at R.A.F. Upwood.
I hope that my little story brings back a few memories for other people who like me still abide here in our village.
Thankyou
