In January or February of 1941 or 1942 we were in the Anderson shelter in next door's garden at night. We heard a bang and were told not to go out. We went out at 7 or 8am at first light. All we could see were chimney pots of all the surrounding houses including our own but all the roofs had been blown off . There were slates everywhere. The bomb must have gone off in the air and had peeled off the roofs like an orange or a banana. As we had nowhere else to stay we stopped in the house for up to a week . It rained a bit and the house was very damp but not too cold. We were invited to stay with a colleague of my fathers in Weoley castle until the house was repaired which took three months.
