I took the advice of the 大象传媒 and made a few notes to help me with my little tale of what I call 'Uncle Adolf's World Tour '.
I wanted to leave a memory for our little lad age ten.
The problem was that my little story became bigger ! and bigger and bigger.
When I stopped writing, I had about 25000 words . It has a prologue and nine chapters !
I was amazed at what I had become involved in. I have a really unusual recall, Helped perhaps by my 'gift?' of dyslexia ?.
And my humour has not changed over the years.
I have read with great interest, some of the accounts of the memories of my generation
recalling their war years and I was struck by the sadness of it all. Lost times and
distant memories .
But, to me aged eight, the war was exiting.
I saw no danger and I lived ( as eight year olds do ) from day to day.
A great deal of it was funny' to me.
Now , there are so many things I would like to know. Where are those young lads who came driving through our town wearing little hats with two points on them and looking around in amazement ? The first G.I.s I ever saw. What happened to the German prisoners ? and the Land Girls , and the merchant navy chap, and the lads on the gun site, and the Spitfire pilot who almost obliterated me ? I wonder what happened to my little Jewish friend ?
I had an interesting war, and, unless the 大象传媒 gets fed up and tells me to stop clogging up their valuable space, I would like to give you some of my story.
Kids aged eight ( and a lot more ) would be able to see it all through the eyes of one of their own kind .
Coming to a computer near you shortly ......
Look out for the title 'TIN HATS AND TOY GUNS'.
sincerely, Arnold Long.
