At the start of the war , William a W.W.1 Veteran was recalled after serving 21 years in the navy, his ship was send to the Med,after asea battle off of CREATE he deid and was buried ashore,in 1940 his ship was the H.M.S. Glouster
Brother Alfred a Chief Petty Officer was also serving in the Med,his ship was badly damaged at Malta, he was awarded the D.S.O. by the King.
Brother George was a Sgt serving in India and was brought back to fight in Fance, he was taken P.o.W. at Dunkirk.
Reginald, he became a Gunner in the Royal Artiliary,his fight started in Italy.
Robert Cpl, he joined the army and was sent to India,he gharded Jap P.O.W.S.
Stanley Pte, was also sent to India .
Phillip L/Sgt joined the remains of Georges Regt which became the 5th Recnnaissance Corps, their travels took them to India, then overland to Persia and on to Plaestine were they joined up wth the 8th Army and on to Sicily then Salerno Monti Cassino and Anzio, form were he drove up the coast road to Rome on the 1st june three days before the Americans, it was his report that let GEN MARK CLARKE drive into Rome. Next to the south of France and on to Germany, were he opened the gates of a concentration camp
(bergen belsen) a day and date he would never forget 14 April 1945 his report notified H.Q. and on to a P.O.W. camp in which his brother George was an inmate.
he went on to take the surrender of a German youth unit and finaly met up with the Russians.
He was awarded the Military Medal for his actions in Germany. Phillip was my father.
