I was living in Maidstone and I was about seven.

It was near the end of the war. There was a convoy of American soldiers outside All Saints Church and we shouted
"Have you got any gum chum?" and they threw us packets of chewing gum.

That was great because we couldn't get many sweets and chewing gum in them days. It was marvellous that!
