My mother, brother and I were privately evacuated to some members of my father's family in August 1939, we returned in February 1940, My mother, Elsie Isabella Rundle, (nee Christie) was 38 years old; my brother, Peter John Rundle was 6 and I, Pamela Joan Rundle was 10 years old. We lived at 6 Raynor Close, Southall and Peter and I went to Beaconsfield Road Infant and Junior Schools. I think we went to St. Austell on the GWR train but I have no memory of the journey and I have no idea how we got from St. Austell to the Central Stores in Polgooth, some miles to the south. However I do remember that all three of us had the main upstairs bedroom which was very large. My aunt and uncle lived and worked at the Central Stores with their two daughters. My uncle and aunt were William James Crossman and Rhoda Mary (nee Sweet) and their daughters were Joan and Mavis. The Central Stores in Polgooth sold everything, food, cigarettes and even coal which was stored at the back
