My husband and i were married on October 5th 1940. I lived at Harestone Valley, Caterham. The German bombers used to fly up the valley at ground level, below the range of anti-
aircraft guns, on their way to bomb Kenly aerodome. On the day of our wedding the sirons sounded my father tied a mattress and sandbags to the top of our car, because the Germans used to gun anything that moved, We arrived at Caterham church,me in a full length white dress, as the "all clear" sounded. The cannon who married us, got half way through the survice before he relised he was wearing his tin hat. He was a A.R.P warden.
