I remember going to buddle school when I was 6 years old, this was after the war.
I used to take a bowl and a jug to the school there was about 5 ladies standing servingg soup and dinner in the street on station road.
We had to take this home a share this amon'st the rest of the family.
there was also a shop on Station road back, called wandleses because we could not get sweets in the shops, the owner Mrs wanless would make toffee cakes out of her sugar rations.
On North Road there was a dairy, I uesed to take a jug where the man would pour the milk out of a chun into our jug to take home as there were no bottle.
ON North Road there was a place called the sunshine mission where we would go and watch the magic lantern shows.
They used to pull a white sheet down from the cieling and project a light onto it and showed the lanterns.
They also projected films onto this sheet ( Buster Keeton, Charlie Chaplin) were the ones I remember.
Ialso went to North Road Store where I collected the empty sugar sack which were made out of hesien, my mother would wash them and draw patterns of flowers and put them in the mat frames.
She would collect old rags or old clothes and dye them and cut them into clippins and make cloppy mats.
She would use old net curtins dip this in dye and decorate the walls.
