The enemy was now going to wash their hands with us and to hand us over to the Italians, by taking us in convoy to cages alongside the harbour at Bizerta, which we reached on 1st March. En route the convoy had slowed up and a pretty Arab girl approached us carrying a pitcher of water. A German immediately pushed her to the ground. Not long after arrival at this large compound there was an Officer from our 155 Battery in a cage opposite and upon seeing me, he said 'they must certainly take great care of you' I had absolutely no idea as to what he meant by that.
Some of us were fortunate enough to obtain some straw upon which to sleep on the ground, but I spent the next three nights walking around and around in order to keep warm. We were now to be shipped over to Naples on the 4th March. An Italion sailor wished us 'Bon voyage' by saying 'Your ships come and boom-boom down we go'
