I was born before the war and brought up by my grandmother. We were in Montserrat because my uncle was a police man . I remember during the war he was taking two female prisoners on a boat to Antigua because there was no prison on Montserrat and the boat went missing. There was a huge search for them because they were prisoners and they had a nappy on the boat which they flew so they would be spotted. I can remember there were some ships that were protected by submarines on their journey to the islands as they had supplies on board. We could see the sea from where we were and I remember hearing the boats come in with food and seeing them being protected. It took a while for food to get through and I remember being short of rice, flour and butter and cornmeal. But St Kitts had sugar and vegetables. I had an Uncle who fought in the war and I鈥檓 sure I can remember some form of home guard.
