On 3rd September 1939 I was almost 12years old. A sad say not knowing what might happen. But soon we were living with food ration books, clothing coupons, Petrol coupons, Gas masks, I.D cards (D21Q93) Blackout and under stairs ready in case of air raids.
Home Guards, and Air Raid Wardens, Tree Trunks for barriers across roads in case of an invasion.
We had Aerodromes nearby especially upper Heyford, and for a short time American Troops in the Park.
In 1943 I started work at the Oxfordshire War Agricultural Executive Committee in the Feeding Staffs dept. some animals were also rationed; Farmers made claims and were issued with Protein and Cereal coupons.
We had great ´óÏó´«Ã½ Radio Programmes — The American Forces Network — Hollywood films. I went with friends to the V.J Celebrations In London, quite overwhelming.
So much happened to so many during the war: but good to be reminded of it.
