My father was a Canadian soldier, brought over here at the beginning of the war. My mother was in the ATS. Like many people they started a relationship and I was the result. My father already had a wife and family back home, but like many at that time they lived for the day, they could have been killed any night.

I know quite a bit about him, but have been unable to find out much as the privacy laws in Canada prevent you finding out about people without their permission - conundrum there!

To say I'm not curious would be a lie, but I had a wonderful childhood with a large extended family. My mother married another soldier, (English this time) and he adopted me as his daughter, so he was in fact my real father. The man who's genes I carry has never been heard of again and as both my parents are now dead I am getting curious again, although I have probably left it too late. My dad served with the Royal Artillery and saw active service in Mediterranean, finally being injured in the Italian campaign. He always said he would like to go back and see Naples with out bullet holes and bomb sites, but he never did. My brother did it for him when he was too ill to travel.
