Brighton local people gave their services nearly every evening, taken by coach to remote bomb sites and other places where soldiers were.
My parents were dedicated entertainers. My mother sung and played beautifully by ear. Mostly Ivor Novello songs. My father was a humourist. They also had a unique living marionette show. That was a small stage, with little dolls, using your own head through a black curtain, singing and dancing with my mother at the piano. This was also taken to Arundel Castle when the Canadians were stationed there. The Duchess of Norfolk was most intrigued with the set up
Once a small plane was sent to fly them to a naval base in Cornwall. My parents had never flown before. My father said it was all tied up with string flown by a one legged pilot! Very lights flashed on landing, which was a bit terrifying for them. the comic on board, as they were flying pointed out all the cemetries as they flew over them.
