We were heavily bombed, but our house was not hit whilst we were in it. Like most other children, I was forever ignoring her instructions to stay in the house for my own safety. I went out to the road and was suddenly aware of an airplane diving, it looked like it was heading towards me and firing. The postman grabbed hold of me and threw me to the ground and for added protection he lay on top of me as a shield. The plane fired on our house, breaking the windows in the process and hitting our brand new three piece suite in several places, we had to live with those holes for years. Following another raid, my mother was peering into a crater across the road from our house when our mongrel dog grabbed hold of her and pulled her away. The bomb was later discovered to be unexploded.
