I remember as a 4 or 5 year old child going to a children's birthday party in the village of Broughton. Blackout curtains covered all the windows. Each child could sing a song or recite a poem, in return for this they would receive a small prize. I remember my prize was a small 'Shirley Temple' notebook.
At a Christmas party at the R.N.A.D. depot at Broughton Moor, footlights arranged for Father Christmas to come on to the stage consisted of a biscuit tin with a lightbulb inside. I remember the footlight that I stood next to had no bulb just a socket and that I received an electric shock after putting my finger inside the biscuit box.
I also remember the trains loaded with ammunition going from Workington, through Seaton to the R.N.A.D. depot, as well as the convoys with ammunition going to Anthorn (Fleet Air Arm) airfield.
