I was stationed at Weston-Super-Mare with the WRENS and remember a notice was put up one night by an airman called Tony Hancock. He was appealing for dancers to appear in a pantomime he was putting on. We thought it might be a giggle so we joined about another dozen girls and we had a dance teacher from Weston. It was jolly hard work and only four of us stuck it out.
On the big night we wore silver lame bras and wee skirts. We had only managed to learn a few steps to a four beat time and it wasn鈥檛 long before the watching airmen were shouting 1-2-3-4 in time to the music. They loved it, we were having great fun, and Tony was so funny as Cinderella in a beautiful tutu, army boots and a red rose in his mouth.
I did some scenes with him and at the end we were cheered and everybody said it was one of the best shows they had seen.
