This story is submitted by a volunteer on behalf of Radio Bristol Action Desk at City of Bristol College.

At one point the family lived in Corfe Mullin in Dorset they ran a cafe which whose clientel were American Forces. It was quite common for John to be given chewing gum. The GI's also offered Nylons to John's mother and this did not always go well with the father.
Other recollections by John was when his father found him turning on beer taps at the NAAFI and wasting beer. He was made to draw a pint and then drink it. Putting him off beer for a long time.
