I remember after D'Day when the Germans started to send over the V1s, I lived in Edgware and we were on top of a hill overlooking the Co-Op in Burnt Oak and the D'Havilland factory which they wanted to bomb the factory at that time built engine parts (I believe D'Havillands before the war was the main factory building aircraft and was part of Stag Lane airport, Amy Johnson and Jim Mollison used it a lot then, hence there are some names locally) At this time I was 12 years old and my neighbours asked me with the help of binoculars that I should yell out when D'Havillands put up a warning sign on top of the building, I believe it was a series of black balls or triangles? The sign indicated if the V1s were heading our way,and if they were, we all dived into the Anderson shelter wich our Dad's had built, My father who was in both wars was in WW2 in charge of a Balloon Station some were else.
