I remember the screech of the planes coming over my house - we lived near the shipyards so we were under constant threat. My father worked in the shipyards as a crane driver. Sirens were constantly wailing, and shelters full. We were hiding in the house, when an explosion shook the street. After lying there till the all clear was given, we waited for the dust to settle and ventured outside. Shrapnel littered our garden, and I remember sifting through it to find the choice pieces. It was our entertainment. I remember my family gasping, and I looked up to see that the church behind us was gone. Apart from a few stone foundation blocks, the remenants had been blasted as far as the next village. I remember being so scared - it could've been me.
