The Best Man (Brother of the Groom) and his wife, Matron of Honour (Sister of the Bride) Photograph taken late 1930's/early 1940's

The Matron of Honour (extreme left of Bride)

The Bride's older sister, had also followed in her brother's educational footsteps as she rose to the occasion when a Student Teacher was required to take a class at the Girls' School in Ferndale. Her destiny led her to London, and to the Pitman College, whilst she stayed at a Girls Residence.

Once ww2 was declared, action was required : windows were taped up with paper strips against the blasts of bombs and incendiaries. At the Home Guard she would be part of the Air Raid Watches, on a Fire Drill exercise she would enter huts filled with smoke - lying low on the ground to get the most air, and was taught other methods that would keep her safe throughout the bombing of the City of London.

By 1941 Britain's railways were in crisis. They were responsible for carrying goods that had previously travelled by sea, more passengers than ever before (as a result of petrol rationing), and weapons of war from the factories in the north to the ports in the south.

In a reserved occupation, the Bride's sister worked for the Railway Network based with the London North Eastern Railway. Her Offices had to be evacuated to Oakley Park, once the torrid London Blitz proved too dangerous. These experiences would remain fresh and alive as if only yesterday.

At her brother's Wedding, she was introduced to her husband to be. They were married in 1942, and had one daughter. They were to enjoy nearly 61 years of marriage.

Youngest Sister

The Groom's youngest sister had married during ww2 on 22nd November 1941; she had kept her husband and eventual family close to her. She had helped to work the land in an effort to feed her increasing family, whilst her husband had become a member of the Home Guard ensuring that areas of the West Wales coastline were secure from any intrusion.

Her youngest daughter would be born as a new decade dawned, and a Prayer for Peace would be extended across the World on the wings of a breeze.
