"This story was submitted to the People's War site by a volunteer from Gloucester on behalf of Mrs Hall and has been added to the site with her permission. Mrs Hall fully understands the site's terms and conditions".
I was a child, 12 years old and the bombers came over and set the docks alight. We could see the whole of London blazing. The water had gone out and the fire service could not get the water easily, as the tide was out.
We use to sit under the stairs, when the whistling screaming bombs came down around us. I used to be told off by Mum for standing outside with a Helmet on watching the Battle of Britain!
V.E.day was great. Dancing round the bonfires, shouting "We are going home!"
