Memory of one of bombing missions over Germany, when the Germans first used a cunning device we nicknamed 鈥淪CARECROW鈥�.
On this particular raid, we could see a lot more of our bombers going down in flames than was normal. It was most frightening. When we got back to base it was the main topic of all crews at briefing. Later, after investigation by intelligence, it turned out that most of the 鈥渟hot down鈥� bombers were only flaming objects used to demoralise our crews.
