InNovember 1943 we had been on a raid to Berlin. On return, we could not land at our base in Lincolnshire because of thick fog. We were diverted to Yorkshire but having arrived at Pocklington we found it impossible to land there either because the fog had arrived before us. So were were ordered to abandon the aircraft. We climbed to 6000 feet and in turn left the aircraft, which I understand came down in the Humber. Wen we had all got out, our pilot looked for his parachute, which had disappeared! Fortunately, he found it beneath my table (I was the navigator) and made his escape.
