This is Yvonne Chapman's story as told to Jacqui Brown. The author is aware of the implicatins of adding her story to the website.

During the duration ofthe doodlebug bombings
the family would take shelter in the cupboard under the stairs. Yvonne has no memory of being frightened. The family always made it a fun experience. Armed with a torch and a picnic and games and cards to pass the time during the raid.

When the all clear was sounded we would all come out of the cupboard and on many occasions we had been very close targets and houses and nearby streets had been flattened to the ground.

The children would hear the noise of the doodlebug and stand and watch wondering when the engine would cut out and then run indoors to the cupboard.
