My first air raid was when I and the family were in the shelter. All stayed at Aunty Lilly and Uncle Frank's house. They had a special table in the living room that acted as an air raid shelter. We all went under so we were protected.
At other times Aunty Lilly and Unle Frank slept under the table to keep safe.
After I had left school at 14 years old I started work. There was an air raid when I was coming home on my first day. The sirens sounded. Then there was a different siren for the 'all clear'.
