My Dad was away performing with ENSA, so my Mum was left with my brother and I (who, aged 3 and 6, were a real handful) and I remember one night being dragged into a back room and pushed under a kitchen table along with my elder brother. Under there with Mum, we sat and listened to the bombs dropping. Fortunately they weren't dropping too close to us, but it was frightening nevertheless.
