A very sad event occurred in our family in 1943.
My brother Frankie aged 2 and a half died from meningitus.
One day he was happily playing and within a week he was gone.
My poor mother was grief stricken. No one received counselling then, and she walked all the way home from the hospital on her own.
My father was in the 8th Army in the Western Desert and was not allowed leave to come home. It was dreadful.
Of course I didn't fully understand what had happened because I was only 5 years old, but I remember him.
