This story was submitted to the People's War site by Louise Angell of the CSV Action desk at 大象传媒 Radio Derby, on behalf of Una Tomlinson. The author fully understands the sites terms and conditions.

I was 12 when the war started. We had a Morrison Shelter which was a big metal table with a grid underneath to put a mattress on. The side was enclosed but had holes in.

Every Sunday I had to beat the milk, butter and cream for the spread. we'd have that for the week then. Mixing it all up meant that we all got the same thing and avoided arguments.
