September 1St 1940 Sunday
Such a beautiful day, perfect weather. Siren sounded 11.15 am - All Clear 11.45 am then again at 2.pm All Clear 2.45 pm I went to bed at 9pm slept until 6.30 am in the-morning what a peaceful night.

September 2nd 1940 Monday
Siren sounded 8.10 am All Clear 9.55 am Had just arrived at the office so went straight to the shelter Siren sounded again 4.25 pm All clear 5.50 pm Went to bed about 10 pm but didn't go off to sleep when siren sounded again 10.40 pm All Clear 2.50 am What a life!!

September 3rd 1940 Tuesday
Siren sounded 10.20 am - All Clear 11.30 am We had a peaceful lunchtime then siren sounded 2.50 pm All Clear 4 pm Its a gorgeous afternoon, if only we were on Summer Holidays, and at peace! We all went to bed earl ~p Siren sounded 11.40 pm All Clear 11.55 pm Went back to bed and had a peaceful night

September 4th 1940 Wednesday
Did not feel so good so went home for the day arriving there about 8.45 am Siren sounded 9,20 am All Clear 9,45 am Aunties Tilly and Marie arranged to go home by car. He came for them about 11.5 am Next siren sounded 1.30 pm All Clear 1.50 pm Am glad they arrived home safely It was a beautiful day so spent the day reclining in a deck chair in the garden I went to bed very early but the gun-fire was terrific about 8.45 pm Siren sounded 9.5 pm All Clear 10.50 pm Went back to bed but gun-fire terrible at 11.40 pm 12.30 am 1.30 am no siren though so after a while went to sleep Don't feel very well this morning but am back at G E G

September 6th 1940 Thursday
Another perfect day regards the weather Siren sounded 10 am All Clear 10.55 am Siren sounded again 3.5 pm All Clear 4.30 pm We all emerged from the Shelter longing for our cup of tea. Good old Mrs Crawley, she has just brought me in a cup of tea and do I want it or do I ??? Siren sounded 9.20 pm All Clear 4.50 am!! Had just arrived back in bed when the wretched thing went again 5.20 am All Clear 5.55 am I feel like nothing on earth this morning. My goodness if they get any longer at nights we shall be fit for nothing It is the longest one we've had.

September 6th 1940 Friday
Siren sounded 8.50 am we all went down to the Shelter All Clear 10.5 am We all look very sleepy this morning Siren sounded 12.55 pm All Clear 1.55 pm Felt very hungry Its a perfect day again Absolutely boiling hot Siren sounded just as we had finished our tea 6 pm All Clear 6.40 pm

September 7th 1940 Saturday
Siren sounded 5 pm All Clear 6.40 pm Terrific gunfire And again 8.30 pm - 5 am Terrible fires started all round us

September 8th 1940 Sunday
Another beautiful day so we had a good sleep and got up to lunch. We had finished lunch by the time the next siren sounded 12.30 pm All Clear 1.35 pm We had just made a cup of tea so I picked up the tray and ran down to the Shelter and we had our cup of tea there. Last night was really terrible and all those hours in the Shelter! Siren sounded at 8 pm All Clear 5.45 am Gun fire was _ terrific. How much longer can this go on? Mother's leg was very painful all night. Father went up to the bungalow before all clear sounded so I made Mother as comfortable as possible and she did get some sleep. Bless her they both are very brave. No gas service

September 9th 1940 Monday
All quiet all day long until just as we were going home Siren sounded 5 pm All clear 6.25 pm I just had a cup of tea and went straight home arriving there about 7.40 pm Siren sounded 8.50 pm All clear 5.55 am We made ourselves comfortable in the shelter and 1 got a good bit of sleep in between the gunfire which was very heavy. Crowds of people everywhere No trains running, everybody hitch-hiking Hope to get home early to-night Great change in the weather freezing cold and a lovely 'drizzley' rain.

September 10th 1940 Tuesday
Siren sounded 12.55 pm -All Clear 1.20 pm Think I shall have to shorten it to S.S. Still no gas S.S. 4 pm All Clear 4.15 pm Had just reached Barking as S.S. 5-.25 pm All Clear 5.45 pm Had to fight my way onto a Green Line Proceeded as far as the level crossing when S.S. again about 6.15 pm All Clear about 6.35 pm Don't like going into Public Shelters. Eventually arrived home 7.10 pm S.S. 8.20 pm All Clear 4.45 am !!Gun fire terrific. We found a largish piece of Jerry about 3" x 3" on the path this morning
