During the war I lived in Nottingham with my parents and sisters my name is Anne Jeffcutt, I was 19 in 1939 and was sent first to a civil defence depot to work at a first aid station and the local ambulance.
Then when I was 21, I was called up and sent to a factory call Erricson's at Beeston, which made field telephones for the army. On my first day there I met a girl whose was also on her first day. Her name was Dimphnia Berridge, but she said call me "Dolly", my name I said is Anne Vick so she said I will call you "Vicky", and so this friendship began.
I am now 85, and we have been close, life long friends to this day, she was my Bridesmaid in 1943, when I became Anne Jeffcutt, "Dolly" later married and became Dimphnia "Dolly" Freeman. Our children played and grew up together, we have helped each other through the highs and lows of life, all the precious years, our husbands were friends too. I am now a Widow, and Dolly unfortunately has Parkinsons, but our friendship never dies. We still remember when we were girls who cycled to work together in all weathers, who laughed and saw the funny side of what ever life threw at us, we spent holidays together before and after marriage, life was fun and we made the best of it "Dolly" was an excellent skater, and could dance on ice.
I enclosed a photo of us both on holiday in Blackpool in 1942, "Dolly" is the one in trousers, that smile could light up a room. True friendship is rare, I bless the day I met Dimphnia Rowena Berridge, 44 memorable years to treasure.
