I was born in newcastle upon tyne on december the third 1940.My father had already joined the r.a.f. whilst my mother was pregnant and was posted to India before my birth.When I was some months old we moved to Bishop Auckland to be near my grandparents.As I grew up during the war I was not aware that life could be different as I had not experienced anything else.I thought it was normal to queu for food doled out in meagre rationed quantities and as I did not know what a biscuit or a banana was,never missed them.I never missed my dad as I had never had one(HOWEVER THIS 5 YEAR ABSENCE DID EFFECT OUR RELATIONSHIP LATER-A DIRECT RESULT OF HIM NOT BEING PART OF MY FORMATIVE YEARS.I remember at the end of the war we had a big party in the town park which eventually made me realise that we had something to celebrate.So ther you are the war for me was just what seemed a normal childhood.
