My uncle Bob was my dad's younger brother by about 2 years.

On was do to go into submarines, the other in mine sweepers. My dad turned up late,so uncle Bob, who was due to to mine sweepers, took my dad's place.

During the Mediterranean Battle, my uncle Bob was in HM Submarine Neptune when it was depth charged. He was just over 21 years, and was buried in Alexandria with his shipmates.

I did meet him once, but I was only 7 months old, so I do not remember him.

Message 1 - Young brother lost

Posted on: 14 February 2004 by Peter - WW2 Site Helper

Dear Christine,

Can you check the name of the submarine in which your uncle was lost? HMS Neptune, also known as Faslane Base, is a Royal Navy submarine base situated on the River Clyde in Scotland. The base is still in use, but it was first constructed as a base in WW2.

If you enter his surname and initial here About links you will get full details. Alternatively, give his name here and I will search for you.

Kind regards,

Peter
