Whilst in the allotment behind the houses in Dymchurch Road with my grandfather and friend Bernard,we heard thge sound of an aircraft approaching and it did not have the recognisable sound of "one of ours".We looked up and my grandfather pushed us both to the ground and laid on top of us, as the plane ,later identified as an ME 109 flew over us you could hear the sounds of machine gun fire as it strafed the area we were in and then shot up the tin canteen hut on the edge of Hythe Military Ranges. We didnt have time to be afraid as it was iover in seconds but it is something I will never forget.
