In the cockpit of a Hurricane

In 1938 my brother and I were very excited when we were taken to an airshow at Speke. This picture shows us in the cockpit of a Hurricane, a fighter plane later to play a key role in the defence of Britain.

I was born in 1933 and my brother Michael in 1930. My brother is probably looking so worried because we weren't supposed to climb inside the planes.

The photographer was my father and he had persuaded one of the servicemen to break the rules.
