This story was submitted to the Peoples War site by Elizabeth Ann Hogebn.
When I was five the war began. My father went away to the air force.
When the air raid sounded we would go to the shelters with the other children, where we would sing songs.
When the school was bombed we had to stay at home.
We had teachers who would only go to the homes of the older children while we (The younger children) were told we would catch up our schoolwork later on.
The house next door but one was hit with an incenedry bomb that killed the man who lived there, my friend.
