Celebrate Yes, Forget No
Hitler waged war in Europe in 1939
Until then, the world was at Peace, we were all doing fine
Ambition and hatred strove him to conquer the world
But this wasn't to be, as you'll see as my stories unfurled
The Germans main allies were Italians, Russians and Japs
They added to the fuhrers worldly mishaps
This bully and his henchmen thought the world to obtain
But didn't reckon with this island not our great domain
With our commonwealth of countries, which wasn't too few
To list them is too numerous, but they know who's who.
In prison camps he murdered, tortured, starved people in millions
Whilst all over Europe he bombed the civilians.
The Japanese camps were far worse than bad
Also inflicting humiliation, disease, it was so sad.
The British and Allies retaliated with vengeful feeling
As they raised to the ground, the German's capital, Berlin.
The R.A.F's fierce fighting at the Battle of Britain
Played a huge part, determined the war we should win
In the air, the brave pilots in their superior machines
Fought the enemy, some died but they left their stings.
The British soldier is superior by no other
He will fight with his comrade, as though he's his brother.
Battling in the desert, Europe, the East
Fighting to the death, till the battle is ceased
Never beaten at sea, the great Royal Navy
Always keeping calm, although the sea maybe stormy and wavy
Great battles were fought, Matapan and The River Plate
All a culmination, to seal Germany's fate.
The WRAC's, WAF's, WREN's, The Land Army too
All did their bits, to name just a few.
The Salvation Army, Naffi, The Red Cross
All working together, showing the enemy who's Boss.
The Russians decided on Hitler they couldn't rely
Turning their backs on them to become a British ally
The Italians found they couldn't fight fire with fire
So with all hands up, from the war they'd retire.
Another fierce battle was the one at Arnham
Not one ally was branded a coward, to scar them
Para's being shot, on their parachute descent
Or drowning in a swamp, this is how some of them went.
D Day, 6th June, The Battle of Dunkirk
Thousands of casualties, due to inferior plans and bad work.
A massacre was made of Canadians, Americans and British
Many a brave man, reluctantly gave death a kiss
From the shores of England, civvies in schooners to row boats
Sailed the Channel with anything that floats
On a hazardous journey, for the brave boys to save
Some of them perished to a watery grave.
After six years of misery, the bomb and the gun
On the 8th May, Victory, the war in Europe was won.
Hitler, the monster, had nowhere to hide
The decision he made was to commit suicide.
He having chosen the game and lost,
Unfortunately world wide, to every ones cost.
The war in Japan didn't know what was on their menu.
Two atom bombs were Americas trump card
Nagasaki, Hiroshima, were hit very hard.
On the 15th of August this war ended
The Japs dishonoured, defeated and to their depths decended.
Victorious countries rejoiced in the streets
Singing and dancing with loved ones to meet.
Children chanting, they all knew what for
EE I ADIO, we won the war.
All over the world returns peace and calm
Hoping no one else will come to harm.
A lesson's been taught and this is a must
Remembering those who fought and died for us.
There's something that's thought, but is seldom said
It's a big Thank You, they can't hear us because they are dead.
So yes celebrate VE and VJ day
But don't forget what it cost along the way.
