I remember vividly standing in a bus queue outside the Bus Station in Chichester, when suddenly without warning a German plane came down between the Cathedral and the Bus Station, machine-gunning us as it flew. I could see the Swastika on the fuselage, and a soldier standing beside me in the queue flung me down onto the steps outside the Bus Station, and in so doing, he saved my life. I would so much like to know that he has survived. There were 60 people killed on that terrible afternoon.
The windows in the bus were all shattered, and the reserve bus came along and drove us to our destinations. I was 19 at the time.
