I lived in Waterhouse Street during the war and we used to go in the air raid shelter up in the street and all around was bombed. When the war first broke out I got evacuated with the kids to Wales, Bangor in Wales, but I only stayed for three weeks.
I brought the children home with me. We were at home for a few weeks and then my sister and me went to my sister in laws in Cheltenham for a while but then we came back again, and took our chances.
When the first bombs came over I lived in Prince Edwin Land and the market, Great Homer Street was all bombed. All right around that area was bombed.
It was terrible. Your mind was always on whether you had to go to the air raid shelter.
