There seemed a lull in raids on Birmingham so we all went to a dance at Handsworth, no buses running and we got talking at the bus stop with an American solder and we helped to show him part of the way back to his barracks at Pheasey, as we had to pass my home, we invited him in for a rest, a cup of tea and a piece of my sisters birthday cake, he was thrilled to go into and English family home and said that he鈥檇 visit us again, but was expected to be shipped out to the fighting abroad. He never came back but I do hope he got home to his wife and family in California, whom he missed dreadfully.
We all went through the war but remember the wonderful attitudes of all the people we met.
