We, the Kings Own Yorkshire Light Infantry were on the front line all the time of the battle but we had two baths a week and clean cloths by mobile baths and we had good food even in the front line. I would not have missed the Normandy landing for all the tea in China and I鈥檒l never forget it. I could give you a lot more but it would take too long. We were only working lads but we were admired and when we arrived in Germany they welcomed us with open arms.
Leslie Frost came from Wetherby he was a game keeper and he always spoke right broad Yorkshire, he was the sniper in the Battalion, a difficult job and he had to crawl on his belly two fields down to a farm, Barmby Farm was the name, without being seen from the enemy, rotten Joe. A day or two before the war finished he went and trod on a mine, I could of cried for him, we were all very close to one another.
