BORN IN A SOMERSET VILLAGE OF HINTON CHARTERHOUSE ON 30 JULY 1921,THE SON OF A FARMER. AFTER AN ENGINEERING APPRENTICESHIP AT AUTOMOWER ENGINEERING IN NORTON ST. PHILIPS HE JIONED THE R.A.F.
AT HENLOW HE WAS TRAINED AS AN AIRCRAFT ENGINE FITTER, WORKING ON THE MERLIN ENGINES.
FROM HENLOW HE WAS POSTED TO CROYDON AS PART OF 242 SQUADRON WORKING ON GLOUCESTER GLADIATORS, AND BLENHEIM'S. HE ALSO VOLUNTERED AS A PART TIME AIR GUNNER FLYING WITH A SERGEANT RUST.
FROM CROYDON HE WAS POSTED TO TANGMERE WITH ELEVEN FIGHTER GROUP.
AT TANGMERE MY FATHERS WAR STARTED, TANGMERE BEING ONE OF THE FRONT LINE AIRODROMES. THE CREWS LIVED WITH THE AIRCRAFT IN SMALL ROOMS BURIED INTO THE EARTH BANKS WHICH MADE UP THE AIRCRAFT BOMB PENS. THE AIRFIELD WAS CONTINUALLY ATTACKED, THE GROUND CREW WORKING ALL NIGHT TO REPAIR DAMAGED AIRCRAFT READY FOR THE NEXT DAY.
AFTER THE BATTLE OF BRITIAN DAD WAS POSTED TO LEEMING BAR IN YORKSHIRE WORKING ON WHITLEY BOMBERS. THESE BOMBERS WERE FLYING CONSTANTLY DROPPING BOMBS ON THE CHANNEL PORTS DESTROYING THE SHIPPING THAT WAS BEING ASSEMBLED FOR THE GERMAN INVASION.
