I was a nurse at the hospital at the GRI, The Gloucester Royal Infirmary in 1940, then I moved to the City General.

All the ‘boys in blue’ the casualties of war were sent. We called them that because they had to wear ‘hospital blues’ trousers and a jacket which were really coarse blue fabric.

On nice sunny days we use to wheel the beds out into the open air, and the general atmosphere was camaraderie.

Sometimes we would push the boys in their wheel chairs around to the Welsh Harp, the local pub for a treat.
