I was 15 when the war broke out and 21 when it finished. That's the time most teenagers are enjoying themselves and meeting lots of people. For us girls left at home it meant hard work. We worked in factories in the black country moving heaving sheets of metal and working in foundries that only men had worked in before. We were not allowed breaks during the day on our own and had to have a pass to have an hour off let alone a day. This story is rarely told of lost years and heavy graft - but we did have our moments!
