I was born in Erdington. I remember one day we had to go down to the air raid shelter at the end of the garden. The siren was going and we could hear the planes coming over. Instead of my dad walking me down to the end of the garden, he pushed me under a bush until the bombing had ceased. I remember feeling really scared. My older sister took me down the road to see an unexploded bomb. The bomb disposal people of the day put this bomb on what looked like a pram and took it away. I suppose they must have defused it. I remember the air raid shelter. It had a musty smell and was very dank. I was one of seven children.
