This story has been submitted to the People’s War website by Peter Quinn of the Lancs. Home Guard, on behalf of Anne Hughes and has been added to the site with Mrs. Hughes’ permission………

In 1942, when I was 12 months old, a bomb landed close to our house in Bristol. In fact a piece of ceiling plaster landed in my cot!
A couple of days later, my sister Jean was taking me out in the pushchair and, passing the bomb crater, decided to leave me there and go off with friends.
When she arrived home without me, Mum’s alarm at the absence of Baby Anne was great. Rushing back, they found me sitting quietly in the crater!
