This bomb fell on 20th February 1941, which was my mother's birthday at 10.30pm, but didn't go off. It took three months for the bomb to be retrieved from our garden as it had settled in the underground Bayswater stream, therefore making it difficult for bomb disposal to deal with. We were evacuated that night to a school for safety in Shepherd's Bush itself, but returned to live in premises until the bomb was recovered. How lucky, but how stupid! Photography wasn't allowed during the war on specific occasions such as this for security purposes, but my grandfather who took this picture, took this opportunity.
