When I first found out that this site was going to close in December 2005 I started to chase up friends and acquaintances to encourage them to write their own WW2 stories.
As part of my ‘campaign’, for the want of a better word, I wrote to a well-known newspaper and received in return some 46 replies.
In every case I responded, giving full details as to how to access the site and of these 46 contacts at least 3 people have succeeded in posting articles themselves.
In some cases the writers said that they were not computerate but I was able to persuade them to enlist the help of other family members and I am still hopeful that further postings will result before the cut-off date in December this year.
One writer, namely Josephine Jaffa, despite not being computerate, was particularly keen that her late husbands record of service should be entered into the archives and I am happy to oblige. To date I only have the bare bones of his service, when I know more I will amend this posting.
