This Poem was brought in by a gentleman called Ted of Humberston. It was written to him by his wife while he was doing service during the war. She passed away about three years ago now, and he found this poem again.
MY THOUGHTS OF YOU
WHEN GOLDEN SUN IS SETTING
AND EVENING SHADOWS FALL
THEN MY THOUGHTS KEEP STEALING
TO THE ONE I LOVE BEST OF ALL
THO' MILES OF LAND MAY LIE BETWEEN US
WE ARE NEVER FAR APART
FOR OUT LOVE IS A TRUE TOKEN
JOINING ALWAYS HEART TO HEART
HAPPY HOURS WE SPENT TOGETHER
JOYS SORROWS, SMILES AND TEARS,
OH! MY DARLING HOW I'VE MISSED YOU
WHILST WE'VE BEEN APART THE PAST THREE YEARS
BUT THE DAY IS COMING DARLING
SOON THE DAY OF PEACE WILL DAWN
OH! WHAT GLADNESS, WHAT REJOICING
ON THAT BLESSED REUNION MORN
SO TILL THEN MY DEAREST HUSBAND
I WILL ALWAYS PRAY FOR YOU
MAY GOD BRING YOU SAFELY BACK
TO A FAITHFUL HEART THAT鈥橲 TRUE.
FROM YOUR LOVING WIFE
HILDA
